A weekly look at TBG's Middleweight division. Issue No.34

 Seek and Destroy in freefall

DQ loss latest set-back

Life as an ex-champion is not being kind to former world middleweight king Seek and Destroy. After being narrowly squeezed out last week against April Margera, Destroy faced a re-match with the Eddy Crown managed Margera knowing that defeat would probably end his title hopes.
With that in mind Destroy tore straight into Margera from the first bell hoping to wear down the more agile Dutchman/woman. Unfortunately for Seek and Destroy Margera was hitting back with sufficient strength to see both fighters tire at roughly the same rate. With a change of tactics needed, Destroy switched the focus of his attacks from the body to the head in round three, even going so far as to hit Margera with an elbow smash midway through the round which brought a stern warning from referee Richard Steele. However, even this trick failed to leave any noticeable marks but Destroy could console himself with winning the third round.
After a fairly low-key round four Destroy exploded in a frenzy in the fifth as he came out brawling. Margera did well to escape without injury as his superior agility came to his rescue, limiting Destroy to a mere fourteen punches landed. With such fireworks flying in the fifth it was very disappointing to see round six turn out to be one of the most boring three minutes in boxing history. A mere sixteen punches thrown in three minutes from two fighters known for their flair and skill was an affront to anyyone who had paid to see this fight. Luckily, it was only an imaginary clash between two fictitious sets of algorithms and calculations so no-ones getting short changed.
Anyway, round seven was everything that round six was not. Despite lasting less than one minute round seven contained some hard head shots and a controversial finale. Seeing his grip on the fight slipping Destroy gambled on an all out charge to finish Margera. After weathering the initial punishment from April, Seek and Destroy used the first opening he found to land a vicious head butt that left Margera writhing in pain. After warning Destroy once already referee Steele didn'y hesitate to call immediate halt to the bout much to the annoyance of Seek and Destroy and his manager dazmataz.
After finally shaking off his persistent challenger Margera now finds him/herself one fight away from a shot at Coach Lee's crown. Frank White managed Mr. Injury Point stands in his way in a world title eliminator fight next week.

Pegg squeezes out Hunter

Tith tonight's only other title clash degenerating into farce (see below) it was left to European champion Extreme Hunter and challenger Jon Pegg to showcase the middleweight division.
Hunter, managed by Clasor the Conqueror and definitely NOT Stalos started conservatively and despite a lack of any meaningful aggression took the first round from Pegg who opted for a more direct approach by fighting inside. Using a range of tactics throughout the fight Pegg kept the scoreline close. His attempts to wear down Hunter were less successful but Hunter's lack of tactical expertise ensured a nail biting finish.
With the ringside commentator expressing the opinion the fight was drawn the judge's decision would be controversial no matter which way the scorecards went. With Judge Leinbach sitting firmly on the fence by scoring it 114-114 it was up to Judge Guimond and Sean O'Grady to decide the winner. Guimond went for a 115-114 call in favour of Pegg and O'Grady clinched it for the Englishman with a 115-113 score in favour of a gym which has FIVE fighters called O'Grady in it. (Who says TBG is free of the corruption that besets real life boxing)

AS&A Title fight farce

The "clash" between Mr Magic and Count Dave to decide the owner of Australasian regional belt turned into a twelve round display of running away as Count Dave spent ten of the twelve round fleeing like a big girly coward. Although Magic was up for the fight Dave only came out of 'run like hell' mode in rounds five and six where he was actually quite impressive. Suspicion of cowardliness from Count Dave was allayed somewhat after this as he spent the remainder of the fight chasing Magic with little aggression (!?!?). One suspects a faulty fightplan rather than fear of injury for this dreadful display.

Op-Ed

Is that OK Jon? :o)
Anyone interested in a tournament based around injuries? I'm thinking of offering a $5 (OK, OK $10) prize for any fighter who can inflict every single type of injury on their opponents. IE The four types of cut below AND above BOTH eyes along with the two swelling types and the mouth and nose injury cominations. Might take a year or more to get the full set but it should a laugh.
Chewbacca Chewbacca vs Mr. Dismisser... I fear the worst. :o(
Told you I'd be the one to screw up in the World Cup. If it wasn't for Eddy Crown being on board Europe would have been toast.
