Braun dethroned
CETUS out boxes champ
Hans Braun's title reign is over. After a few weeks away CETUS returned to middleweight action and for his comeback bout he was thrown straight into a world title shot against the conqueror of Donald "The Bully" Duck and Kaptain America. Although he was regarded as the underdog Braun put up a defiant show to keep the scores close throughout the opening rounds and he was even audacious enough to try cutting up his opponent in round four, but without success. As the bout wore on the challengers greater agility and ring skills, coupled with a small height advantage saw CETUS start to build a significant lead starting from round six onwards. Although he tried every trick up his sleeve Braun could neither level up the scores nor wear down CETUS significantly. Even the supreme effort of throwing 85 punches in round eleven failed as CETUS simply upped the tempo even more by throwing out over one hundred blows in the three minutes. With the twelfth and final round it was clear that Braun was outpointed but he went down battling as he lashed CETUS 78 times with flurries of light punches. CETUS himself was clearly expecting something else as he launched himself forward to try and corner Braun and catch him with a powerhouse blow to the head.
The final bell brought Hans Braun's brief, but glorious, title reign to a halt with a unanimous 115-113 verdict against him and he graciously accepted his fate in a press release acknowledging the new champion. Newly crowned CETUS is now faced with the problem that dogged him in his previous time as No.1 middleweight. Lack of opponents.
Mustard mashes Moran
The Eddy Crown managed brawler Rake "Mustard" Yohn comprehensively smashed the formerly unbeaten Bugsy Moran into a red paste despite the Mid-West regional champion gaining a shock knockdown early in round one. Once Yohn had regained his feet it was one way traffic as the hapless Moran, suffering from several cuts, could not find any sort of momentum in the face of 'Mustards' frenzied assault. Moran was reduced to landing a solitary punch in round four and succumbed entirely in round five to Yohn's slashing blows. Moran's horribly scarred visage, sporting two gashes, was enough to make Rake "Mustard" Yohn the latest recipient of the incredibly valuable 'Middle Massacre Award'.
"The Mauler" retains belt again
The current European champion and two time MMA winner Jason Bagwell fought off the latest challenger to his crown with the help of some curiously favourable judging. Challenger Franko Boy outlanded Bagwell in several rounds but each of the three judges were strangely unimpressed by this. Judges Leinbach and Jones Jr. both going as far as awarding no rounds at all to Franko while the remaining judge awarded only two rounds the jonnydog managed fighter. "The Mauler" and his manager ukpete were both happy to have negotiated a tricky matchup successfully after some pre-fight jitters caused by the rather obscure, but successful, record of the challenger.
Op-EdOne of the way TBG differs from real life boxing is that its the challenger not the champion that gets to pick the 'right' opponent and a reigning champion can ignore anyone he feels will give him a hard time. But in TBG a reigning champ is expected to deal with whatever is thrown at him and I reckon suxel would have preferred to sidestep Bold Bill's CETUS. Although CETUS is definitely a worthy champ (he'd have still been champion but for the title stripping rule) theres a chance that some carpet bagger will parachute into a division just to swipe a belt for one week. I should know. I did it with "Joe Byrd's Paranormal creature ....from Butterball" in Toughman a few months back. Sorry about that Frank :o)
With the fight results and fighter rankings down I'm having trouble finding some of todays fights. Battle Royale: Three fights. Three wins! Including one over Balrog which cheered me up.
Congrats to Eddy Crown's Rake Yohn on being only the ninth fighter to have won an MMA! If you think your fighter has cut up his opponent badly enough to qualify for this award check out Issue 3 (below) for the rating criteria and I-mail me |
