I'm considering running a "TBG Commentary of The Year" award, backing the prize ($ or merchandise or both) and running the voting. The idea is to announce the award soon and have voting occur near the end of the year, with a requirement that commentaries be nominated for the award by at least 3 members plus any eligible commentary must be created by July 1st, 2006. Commentaries that will be eligible are ones that are regularly updated, like the various weight-class commentaries that everyone loves. We can include the various contest-Commentaries in the contest too -whatever is nominated. First off, is there any interest? book

NKM & BUM ...and a few other guys have great Commentaries also. I really appretiate the guys that are putting in the effort w/ these great new comm's these days. NKm seems to have been leading the pack in revatlizing the new wave of comm's. ITM defenitly has some Top Notch coverage, every single week!! book

Thanks for the feedback. I agree with Frank White on the value of the commentaries and the hard work being put into them. I'm a bit dissapointed on the lack of positive feedback on my TBG Commentary of the Year idea however - other than the three guys who have responded, but I'll wait until next week and see if there's enough support before making a decision on it. interest. book

I'm enthused by the interest.... the Commentary authors deserve some serious credit and all the good ones will get plenty of publicity/kudos throughout the voting/discussion process and the final ranking, as well as a guaranteed monetary/merchandise prize for the top winner that I'm going provide. It's a go... I'll get the Commentary up and running for the TBG Commentary of the Year Award sometime this weekend. Here's the initial scoop on it (feedback is welcome): 1) Nominations for Comentary Of The Year are accepted immediately, and you can post your nomination to this forum, or send it to me, Alamo Athletic Club, via the Internal Mail page. 2) Commentaries may have up to 2 official "authors", both of which will be mentioned on the official ballot (feedback on this point encouraged - a couple of the commentaries are a joint effort). If the commentary wins the prize, it's up to the main author - the one who is listed as the commentary author in TBG - to split the prize or tell me how to distribute it. 2) A commentary must receive at least 3 nominations before being part of the balloting. Nominations will be accepted up until sometime in October. 3) The commentaries must be created by July 1, 2006 to be considered. 4) The actual voting will begin in November or December, after nominations are closed - details on voting procedure will be announced later. 5) I encourage all who make nominations to also submit comments and rationale - all of which will be posted on the Award commentary page! In this way, all the nominees will get some positive feedback. 6) I'm footing a guaranteed $25 cash/merchandise prize for the winner - more on that later. 7) I'm going to come up with a way for other TBG managers to donate a $1 or more to help me cover the prize, or to offer a 2nd/3rd place prize - purely optional of course. book

Commentary Of The Year Award page has been updated - check out commentary 1708. We have 4 solid ballot entries plus a couple that need just one more nomination... keep the nominations coming! You can nominate as many as you wish (post here, and please include rationale or at least a few positive remarks that I can post on the site). It only takes 2 nominations for a commentary to make the ballot. I also added a way for us to increase the prize money through contributions. book

The commentary award is a great idea. Hopefully it'll get other people with a little time to start doing ones of their own. book
