Fighter Description

2001 NFL Pick 'Em

Well I decided to once again try and run this tourney, this time I envision more success with it, as last time work really bogged down.
I had waited to get this thing going, as I'd talked with another player here who said that they wanted to run it this go around, but, since I haven't seen it, I'd like to take up the Reins for the second run of the Pick 'em contest.

So, I ask that you all accept my word this go around that the tourney will be run a lot more smoothly, as I have quite a bit more time on my hands these days. So, without further ado, the rules for this go around.

Rules

Fairly simple here, basically you pick the winners of each regular season game, using a spread. A spread basically is used to even the playing field, like you'd say Dallas was playing Philly this year at Philly, Dallas is terrible, Philly is decent, okay Philly would be 6 point favorites.
Just an example, but that would basically be written as Dallas @ Philly (-6) which just means Philly is 6 point favorites to win. Because we're using tables below to do this tourney, for ease, it will actually look like:

Favorite Underdog Line My Pick
PHILADELPHIA Dallas 6.0 Philly

Basically Philly is written in Caps because they are the home team, and are found under the favorites because they are favored by 6 points. Dallas is obviously the underdog, and my personal pick, as i said my picks are always public, but i am out of the prize run anyway, is that the Eagles will win by more than 6 points. If Philly wins by at least 7 points i'd earn 3 points for that. Lets say Philly only beats Dallas by 5 points, then i lose, but if Philly beats Dallas by exactly 6 points, well then the game is ruled a push and is never counted as being played.

Over Under lines, will return as well, same thing but this is a line based on the total number of points that will be scored by both teams combined. So, lets say you have St. Louis at San Fran. and the line is 40. Well basically you have to decide if the game will go over, or under 40 points. Figuring that these two teams can both put up points in a hurry and have questionable defenses, well you'd probably say over.
Simply put, Over Under is a line that is based on the total number of points scored by both teams. And whatever the line is, you have to decide, whether or not the two teams will combine to score more points than that (over), or fewer points, (under).

All in all pretty simple, and anyone who knows anything about gambling I'm sure is already fully aware of how it works.

Scoring

Only correct picks count for you, and this go around a correct pick on just the game line is worth 3 points. A correct call on an over/under is worth 1 point.
If you are able to pick all over and under lines correctly, of which there will be 5, you will receive an additional 10 points.
Now, lets say there are 14 games, (This may not be relevant, if anything there is probably only one or 2 weeks with only 14 games, if that.) in a particular week of NFL, well if you get 10 right out of 14 you receive an additional 5 points, 11 right earns you 10 points, 12 right would earn you 15 points 13 right would earn you 25 points additional and all right, is worth 40 points and 10 dollars.
In the case of 15 game weeks, the bonus points would be awarded for 10 wins as 3 points, for 11 wins as 10 points, and then would go in conjunction with the scores for a 14 game week, but going 15/15 would constitute a 50 point bonus, and 10 dollars.
I truly doubt anyone would do that, but if you get all the games right and all the over under right in a week, its worth 20 bucks and a grand total of 100 points.
High score wins, my scores are posted and counted but i do not count in any kind of prize standings.

Playoffs....I'll leave playoffs up to you, if they do count they will be straight picks on the spread between the two teams, no Over/under lines etc. And worth 10 points a piece. Basically if you guys want these in there, it will give someone the chance to make up a ton of ground late. But I leave it entirely up to those who enter.
Also, would like to know if Monday Night and Sunday/Thursday night ESPN games, should be worth 10 points each, once again i leave this up to the entrants.

Prizes

1st place: 15$
2nd place: 10$
3rd place: 5$
4th place: 5$
5th - 10th place: 1$ a piece

Of course picking a perfect week, you can also earn cash, but like I said above, it isnt a huge amount of cash, given how hard I believe this will be to pull off.
I think the highest correct picks last season was 12 in a 15 game week.

Participation

Basically, all pro players are welcome to enter, and I'll take the first 20 who enter, or as many that have signed up by Sunday September 9th, 2001 before 9:00 AM PST
Amateurs, hmmm possibly, but I like I-mail over email, but I will leave 5 slots open for amats, which means you can go pro for free if you can beat everyone else. Of course pro players have first priority.

Other Important Info

All picks are due, at least one hour before scheduled kick off time for the first game of that week. Usually this is on Sunday at 9:00 AM PST as games typically kick of at 10:00 PST.
But there are cases during the season where games are played on Thursday nights, and on Saturdays. In these cases, standard procedure an hour before scheduled kickoff. If for some reason, you cant get your picks in on time, like say you send them in at 10:30 am, after half the games have already kicked off, well then I will still count the later kickoff games.

If interested in Joining, please make sure you've read all the above, and send me an i-mail, to Demise, just stating that you want in, if you want playoffs to count, (Look at the bottom of Scoring for info), and whether or not Monday and Sunday/Thursday night ESPN games should be worth more points. Again the info pertaining to those are at the bottom of scoring above.

Also, if you have a chance, you are welcome to make your picks for the weeks as lines for week one are listed below. I've made it easier for you, and just listed them as numbers. Basically just send me a sheet that says something to the extent of :
games
1) Indy
2) Oakland
3) Minnesota

Basically, that would mean you think Indy would cover, Oakland would cover, and Minnesota would cover.
Same thing for the over/under:
1) over
2) under
3) under
etc...

Okay, well without further ado, and now that all the matters are done, lets get down to week one. Remember, only picks that count must be submitted by I-mail, if amats are interested in joining drop me a note at brphelps@earthlink.net and you are also welcome to join. Your picks, AMATS only are accepted by email, everyone else, only by imail, and once again an hour before kickoff time.
