Normandy holiday

This Sherman from the Canadian 3rd division is now standing near the beach at Courseulles-sur-Mer, one of the first places to be liberated by the Canadians. It also is the home of the great Canadian D-day museum which was founded by Canadian veterans and is run by students from Quebec.

This one I made at the Airborne Museum in Sainte-Mère-Église. People will know it if they saw "The Longest Day".

This is a photo of the grave of a young American soldier at the Colleville-sur-Mer US war cemetery. I am currently working on a project I started last october when I first visited the site which should result in a short documentary film about this Combat Engineer from the 299th. If anyone's interested I'll write some more about that!

Update: When I first visited the cemetery in october 2009 I was struck by the grave of a young soldier who fell on d-day and shares my first name. Then and there I made a note to try and find out as much as possible about him and used the internet to get every bit of info I could.
While researching I got the idea of turning it into a small documentary aimed at the youtube and/or vimeo audience as a small tribute. I now have the first part finished but still need some more footage and info. Last week when I visited normandy again I shot some footage and made some photo's for the project which will hopefully result in a 15 minute film to be finished before the end of the year.
